HIDDEN GLANCES (USA)

Michael Young plays with the vintage iconography of a gay erotic gaze that shaped Young’s own coming of age times in the late 80s and 90s. One collage shows two fragmented excerpts of vintage gay calendars in a subtle interplay of positive and negative space. Erotic glances are brought to light without undoing the traces of struggle and hiding in a society that suppresses and censors gay and queer desire. Young presents a playful series of conceptually deliberate collages. A way to share a collective gay experience of desire and neglect.
